2005 Phoenix Challenge!
Charlotte, NC – June 3, 2004 – The Phoenix Challenge Foundation has started preparing for the exciting 8th Annual International Phoenix Challenge High School Flexo Competition. The competition continues to grow every year and the students that have participated are excited about what flexography offers and the support from the industry.
Information for the 2005 Phoenix Challenge competition is as follows:

The Phoenix Challenge committee is also looking for companies to sponsor this popular event. Sponsors will be given recognition at the event in media releases and literature about the competition. Bettylyn Krafft commented, “We really need cash donations from sponsors to cover airfare and hotel expenses. We anticipate over 40 students to participate in the 8th Annual Phoenix Challenge and need some industry champions to support the schools. Any amount donated is greatly appreciated. The schools are excited about the next competition and are already kicking it into gear. Our sponsors make us a success!”

The Phoenix Challenge
The 2-day competition includes five areas of rigorous testing: (1) operating a flexo press, (2) prepress, (3) plate making, (4) written knowledge, and (5) overall print quality. One instructor also receives the “Diann Teague Award” based on the students’ ability to work together and effectively demonstrate teamwork.
Approximately eight to ten schools participate each year, and this year each school has the option to bring one or two teams. (A team is made up of two students). To date, schools from Oklahoma, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Canada have participated. Over 30 students participate each year.
The winning team in each category will be awarded a medal, and their school will receive a plaque to proudly display. Additionally, the overall winning team will leave with thousands of dollars in flexo scholarships along with the coveted "Harper Cup" to display at their school for one year. Every student who participates is a winner, and as such, every student will be recognized with a certificate of participation along with well over $100 in industry-sponsored gifts.
